About the event
Join us for a walking tour of a surprising remnant wilderness and beautiful oak savanna on Detroit's east side.
Balduck Park is best known for its sledding hill (which doubles as a movie theater in summer) and athletic fields. But, on the other side of Chandler Park Drive, botanical wonders await. With a context comparable to that on Belle Isle—lake plain prairie characterized by spring inundation, the plant palette is similar and yet unique. Despite its urban setting, this part of the park fosters a wide range of botanical species (some of which suggest that parts of the property have never been under development) and supports numerous native bird species as well.
Dress for the weather, including possible standing water. Meet on Canyon St. where it intersects with Lannoo St. No dogs, please.
One third of all proceeds from this event will be donated to the Wildflower Association of Michigan to support its programs. Bags and gloves provided for volunteer trash clean-up as we go.
